Résumé

The article is part of the field that addresses the relationships between education, work and gender. It analyzes, in particular, the existence and the characteristics of a gender agenda in Vocational Training (VET); educational proposal that tends to reproduce the existing inequalities in the labor market. The gender-oriented public agenda is understood as one that seeks to influence these inequalities, promoting women’s autonomy and rights, but also questioning the prevailing patriarchal social order. In recent years, marked by social mobilization, the social construction of this agenda in public policies has been invigorated. In this context, VET is seen as a key educational proposal for the labor socialization of workers, capable of questioning the reproduction of gender inequalities. From a qualitative research developed between 2017 and 2021, based on in-depth interviews with various institutional actors, the study analyzes, on the one hand, to what extent and in what way gender issues have been incorporated in the general guidelines and in specific programs of VET policies. And on the other, it seeks to understand which are the existing gender approaches in three VET Centers of the City of Buenos Aires, since different institutional devices and strategies. The article shows progress in terms of incorporating a gender agenda, but also differences in relation to carried-on practices and institutional significance around the subject.
